made from high-quality nylon mesh, they’re built to last. while nylon is a synthetic material, it’s chosen for its exceptional durability, stretch, and quick-drying nature - key to making these sponges more hygienic and longer-lasting than typical loofahs or washcloths.

though not biodegradable, nylon’s long lifespan means fewer replacements, reducing overall waste. at mako haus, we’re committed to being transparent about the materials we use. we’re continuously exploring more sustainable options - without compromising the quality or cultural integrity of this essential tool.

bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials available - a fast-growing, renewable grass that requires no pesticides, minimal water, and regenerates naturally after harvesting. it has a significantly lower environmental impact than traditional hardwoods, making it a mindful choice for long-term use.

we chose bamboo for our dry brushes for its balance of beauty, durability, and environmental responsibility. it’s naturally lightweight, strong, and antimicrobial - ideal for bodycare tools that are meant to be held, used, and relied on over time.

our dry brushes are made with natural boar bristles - selected for their ideal balance of firmness and softness. they gently exfoliate the skin without scratching or damaging its surface.

we understand that using animal-derived materials may raise questions. while vegan alternatives like plant-based bristles exist, they’re often too stiff or abrasive for regular dry brushing. after careful testing, we chose boar bristles because they offer a safer, more comfortable experience - especially for use on dry skin.

importantly, the boars are not harmed or killed for their bristles, but rather shaved regularly.

boar bristles retain their shape over time, don’t fray easily, and provide a natural, sensory feel that synthetic materials can’t quite replicate. we value transparency and continue to explore future vegan alternatives, but for now, this choice reflects our focus on both performance and care.
